Westover is seeking dynamic, collaborative, and inclusive applicants for an Associate Director of College Counseling. This is a full time, 10-month position that reports to the Director of College Counseling. This position will begin in August 2024. 

The ideal candidate will:

Champion the School’s mission and core values.

Demonstrate leadership, engagement in and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Have excellent writing, organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills. 

Possess the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, and demonstrate a strong work ethic.

Participate in the life of the School in order to support and serve the student body.

Find joy in communicating with students, parents/guardians, and colleges and universities to highlight the excellence of Westover students. 

Exercise creativity and enthusiasm in an ever-changing college admissions landscape. 

Maintain discretion and the highest ethical standards.

Have at least three years of experience either in a selective college admission office or in a high school college counseling office.

Possess at minimum a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Job Responsibilities:

Provide guidance and support to allow students and families to navigate the complex college application process.

Draft comprehensive, personal, and holistic recommendations for approximately 50% of each senior class.

Partner with the Director of College Counseling to creatively support students and families with a future-focused mindset.

Support students to curate their strongest college applications through self-reflection via essay writing and supplemental enhancements. 

Proficiently utilize technology including Google Suite, Zoom, College Kickstart, and Scoir.

Respond in a timely fashion with energy and empathy to the needs of students, colleagues, and families.

Pursue professional development including attending conferences, visiting colleges, and participating in local and national organizations as well as on-campus programming.

Collaborate with colleagues in offering support as they draft recommendations.

Develop, maintain, and cultivate strong relationships with college admissions officers around the country and the world in order to expose students to exciting options for their post-high school pursuits.

Co-teach college counseling classes for grades 9 - 11 students and families covering topics such as the application process, using Scoir and College Kickstart, financial aid and scholarships, and transitioning to college.

Serve as a resource with knowledge of the financial aid processes and maintain familiarity with the needs of students receiving substantial financial aid (e.g. scholarships, college tours, college pipelines, etc.)
